7. CROSS-BORDER DATA TRANSFERS
Simple Split uses service providers, including payment, hosting, storage, analytics, authentication, email, notification, app distribution, crash reporting, and support providers, that may store or process personal information outside Canada, including in the United States.
When personal information is processed outside Canada, it becomes subject to the laws of the jurisdiction in which it is held, including lawful access requests by government authorities in that jurisdiction.
By using the Service, you acknowledge that your personal information may be transferred to, stored in, or processed in jurisdictions outside Canada. We take steps designed to require that service providers protect personal information in a manner consistent with this Privacy Policy and applicable law.
8. DATA RETENTION
We retain personal information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service, maintain accurate records, comply with legal, regulatory, tax, accounting, and reporting obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud and misuse, enforce our agreements, and support legitimate business purposes.
We generally retain account information for as long as your account is active.
We may retain shared records, expense history, receipts, reimbursement records, payment-related records, savings-goal records, digital piggy bank records, and related documentation for as long as reasonably necessary to provide the Service to connected users, maintain the accuracy of shared records, comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, prevent fraud or misuse, and enforce our agreements.
Where an account is shared with another user, such as a co-parent, deletion of your account will remove your personal information from your own account profile but will not necessarily delete shared expense records, transaction history, receipts, savings-goal records, digital piggy bank records, or other shared records that remain relevant to the other user’s account, consistent with Section 12 (Data Retention and Deletion) of our Terms and Conditions.
Where reasonably possible, we will remove your directly identifying information, such as your name and contact details, from shared records after account deletion. Where removal is not reasonably possible without compromising the accuracy, integrity, or usefulness of another user’s records, your involvement in a shared record may continue to be reflected, limited to what is necessary to preserve that record.
Backup copies may remain for a limited period before being deleted or overwritten according to our backup practices.
Once personal information is deleted, it cannot be recovered.
9. SECURITY
We implement reasonable administrative, technical, physical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information against unauthorized access, use, disclosure, alteration, loss, or destruction.
The safeguards we use may include access controls, authentication measures, encryption or secure transmission where appropriate, monitoring, logging, contractual controls with service providers, and other measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the information.
However, no system, transmission, or storage method can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for notifying us promptly if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization.
If we become aware of a breach of security safeguards involving personal information that creates a real risk of significant harm, we will notify affected users and the applicable regulator as required by applicable law.
10. CHILDREN’S INFORMATION
The Service is intended for use by parents, guardians, and adult users only. It is not intended for direct use by children. You must be at least the age of majority in your jurisdiction to create an account. In Ontario, the age of majority is 18.
Simple Split’s core function involves parents and guardians recording and sharing information about their children, including names, expenses, savings goals, reimbursements, receipts, activities, and related family records, for the purpose of managing shared family expenses and records.
This information is collected from and provided by the parent, guardian, or adult user using the Service, not directly from the child.
Parents, guardians, and adult users are responsible for ensuring they have the legal right or authority to submit information about their children, dependents, or family members, and for ensuring that the information is accurate to the best of their knowledge.
You should only submit information about a child, dependent, or family member that is reasonably necessary to use the Service, such as information needed to document shared expenses, savings goals, reimbursements, or related family records.
We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children through account registration or direct interaction with the Service. If we become aware that a child has created an account or directly submitted personal information to the Service, we may delete the account or information.
11. PAYMENT INFORMATION AND FINANCIAL FEATURES
Simple Split may use third-party payment providers, including Stripe, Apple, Google, financial institutions, card networks, payment networks, or other authorized payment providers, to facilitate subscriptions and, where enabled, optional payment, bank-linking, reimbursement, transfer, settlement, or related financial activities initiated by users.

Simple Split does not store complete payment card numbers on its own servers.
Simple Split’s digital piggy bank feature is a recordkeeping and contribution-tracking tool. Simple Split does not provide banking services, hold deposits, maintain savings accounts, act as an escrow agent, maintain custodial accounts, or act as a custodian of user funds.
Any balance, savings goal, contribution, reduction, allocation, reimbursement, or amount shown in the Service is a record, calculation, or ledger entry unless and until an actual payment or transfer is successfully processed by a third-party payment provider or financial institution.
12. MARKETING COMMUNICATIONS
If you choose to receive marketing communications, we may use your email address or contact information to send product updates, educational content, offers, announcements, launch information, beta-user communications, newsletters, or other marketing messages.
You may unsubscribe from marketing communications at any time using the unsubscribe link in the message or by contacting us using the information in Section 15 (Contact Us).
Even if you unsubscribe from marketing communications, we may still send transactional, administrative, security, legal, billing, account, or service-related messages where necessary to operate your account, provide the Service, respond to your requests, or comply with legal obligations.

Our website may use cookies and similar tracking technologies to operate the website, remember your preferences, understand how visitors use the Service, improve performance, and support analytics.
You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings. Disabling cookies may affect the functionality of the website or certain features of the Service.
Where required by law, we will obtain consent before using non-essential cookies or similar tracking technologies.

They may also include providers for hosting, database management, authentication, analytics, crash reporting, email delivery, notifications, and app distribution.
Third-party services are governed by their own terms of service and privacy policies. Simple Split is not responsible for the privacy practices, security practices, availability, performance, or content of third-party services, except where required by applicable law.
Your use of any third-party service made available through the Service may be subject to that provider’s own terms and policies.

Requests may be submitted using the contact information in Section 15 (Contact Us). We will respond to requests within a reasonable time and in accordance with applicable law.
We may need to verify your identity before responding to a request. In some cases, we may be unable to fully delete or provide access to certain information where retention or restriction is required or permitted by law, necessary to preserve another user’s shared records, necessary for security, fraud-prevention, dispute-resolution, tax, legal, accounting, payment-processing, or regulatory purposes, or necessary to enforce our agreements.
